Genetic laboratory of the Genetics centre iVF Riga carries out missed abortion material genetic testing basing on a complex analysis of all fetal chromosomes using NGS method (Next generation sequencing). With the help of this testing may identify unbalanced chromosomal changes in 1-22 pairs of autosomes and in the X, Y sex chromosomes and get a clear answer to the question, whether the cause of an interrupted pregnancy are fetal chromosomal abnormalities. The result can help the patients find the cause of miscarriage and to develop a strategy for successful conceiving and carrying of planned pregnancy.
DNA contamination test is carried out to exclude mother DNA contamination.
To collect missed abortion material (chorion villi or fetus) and, as soon as possible, deliver it to the iVF Riga Clinic (Riga, Zala street 1, 2nd floor, reception). The material should be placed in the sterile container included in the kit and physiological saline is added in such amount that completely covers the sample. It can be stored in the refrigerator for 1-3 days at a temperature of 3-8o C before the delivery.
The woman must also take a saliva sample so that we can make a DNA comparison. A saliva collection sample is included in the kit.
NB! Research into genetic material in the event of a terminated pregnancy may lead to several situations affecting the test results. Please review the possible outcomes to be aware of the different scenarios and their consequences:
Situation 1: Material processing without testing
If it is impossible to visualise and perform genetic testing of the missed abortion material (fetal or chorion tissue), we perform processing of the material, which costs €21. The rest of the amount for testing will be returned to the patient.Situation 2: Incomplete genetic testing due to maternal tissue predominance
If chorion fragments are found in genetic testing but maternal tissue predominance interferes with the analysis, the genetic cause of the missed abortion cannot be determined. Testing is performed, but the results may not be informative. The amount for testing is not returned to the patient.
Genetic tests are performed for persons older than 18 years. Exceptions apply only with a referral from a clinical geneticist.
